Celebrate Black History Month ✊🏾
upcoming events, new book clubs, and more!

Hi book buds,
We hope your nervous systems and hearts are surviving the current world we find ourselves in. It has been rough and to be honest, I’ve had moments of feeling really down and hopeless, but then something really small yet kind will happen, or my cat will do something ridiculous, or some other small joy will lift my spirits.
What else is helping is seeing the actions folks are taking against the Trump-Vance fascism machine. Whether you participated in the one day economic blackout/general strike a couple weeks ago, have been protesting in the streets, contacting your reps, talking to your neighbors about what is happening…thank you. Every little bit helps.
We’ve been trying to do as much as we can from our little corner of the world as people with very few financial resources at the moment and not a ton of free time. But with y’alls support, we were able to donate $40 from our sales on Jan 30 as part of the general strike to PIRC. It’s not a lot, and we hope to continue finding creative ways to do our part in support of our community. Have ideas or suggestions or want to partner with us? Reach out and lets chat!

Celebrate Black History Month
We hope you’re reading books by Black authors all year, but Black History Month is a great time to really dig in. There are so many amazing books written by Black authors and they do not get the marketing dollars or support from the publishing industry they deserve.
Bookshop.org is offering 20% off select titles for the entire month of February, so we recommend checking that out if you like a good sale.
Here are a few recent releases we really recommend checking out (click on the image to be taken to details/to purchase). You can also go to our website to see a list of more titles, get recommendations from Libro.fm, or check out Bookshop.org’s sale list!

Join us this Sunday for Puzzles & Crafts
We’re trying a new event this weekend! Come hang out with other buds for a couple of hours. Work on a community puzzle or bring your own craft (any will do!) and work on it alongside others. Engage as much or as little as you’d like, but we hope working on your craft in community with others will bring some joy to your spirit and ease to your nervous system.
Sunday, Feb 15, 2-4pm at Hungry Heart | 414 SE 80th Ave

New Book Clubs 📚
We now have three different book clubs we’re hosting:
Cozy, Quiet Book Club/Park Reading Hours: also known as a Silent Book Club. Bring a book, read in community, stick around to socialize after!
EWB Official Book Club: First meeting is in March (virtual and in person) and we’re reading Thirty Names of Night by Zeyn Joukhadar! Voting is now open for our April book.
Rant&Rave Book Club: New! This is a choose-your-own-adventure book club where you have the opportunity to rant and/or rave about any book you’d like. Leave with a list of books to add to your to-read list or avoid like the plague.

Did you know we’re dreaming of opening our own physical location in the next year or so? It’s true! We’ve been looking at spots, but haven’t found the right one yet. We also need to finish paying off our initial start-up costs and we’re getting close! If we sell 225 books in the next month, we’ll be able to pay off our debt and should hopefully be able to afford to start paying me a tiny bit of money and start saving for deposits and build out costs. Every time you support our little shop by following us on social, liking or resharing a post, telling your friends about us, purchasing from us directly or from our Bookshop.org or Libro.fm pages, helps us get a little bit closer to our dreams. Lastly, we hope you are feeling loved this Valentine’s Day in addition to a very happy Lunar New Year, and Ramadan Mubarak as well to all who observe these holidays. Thank you for being here, zo and mags | ![]() |
