Birthdayyyyyy feelings and ramblings 🄹

Today is my (Zo here!) birthday! I am completing my 38th journey around this big bright fireball we call the sun, which feels like such a gift considering I didn’t think I’d make it past 24. I’ve struggled with mental health (hello PTSD and anxiety) for most of my childhood and well into my 20s, which came with a lot of dark seasons. I truly didn’t think I’d make it to my 25th birthday for one reason or another. To make it well into my 30s and to be living a life where I’m in a very happy, fulfilling, love-filled and very gay marriage (shout out to my life and business partner, Mags), live in the dreamiest house I could have ever imagined, in a city I love, with a community that holds me and sees me and celebrates me, while also now getting to have this little career and business I adore?! What a dream. I feel like the luckiest silly goose in the world. My biggest birthday wish this year is that as a society and community, we care for one another and make progress against the capitalist, fascist, racist, queerphobic, and ableist hellscape we find ourselves in.

Beyond not thinking I’d survive a quarter century on this planet, I’m also a triplet. Which mostly means I share a birthday with two people who otherwise I have pretty much nothing in common with, from parents who also didn’t love each other very much, so birthdays were tense and sometimes traumatic as a kiddo. Those conditions combined with being a Leo that often doesn’t feel like a Leo (hi, I hate attention), birthdays still feel really awkward and complex. So we’re going to celebrate by giving away some free stuff!

Women In Translation Month

August is Women in Translation Month, a month where we celebrate female authors whose works have been translated to English. Reading translated lit is one of my favorite genres of books to read, as it connects me to different parts of the world and cultures. What are you reading to celebrate Women in Translation?

Trans History Month

August is also Trans History Month, where we celebrate the trailblazers, activists, and icons from the Trans community.
