July is Disability Pride Month 🌈

July is Disability Pride Month! Now recognized and celebrated worldwide, it started as a commemoration of the US passing the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in July 1990. Disabled people make up at least 16% of the world's population representing all ages, races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, religions, and socio-economic backgrounds. It is also the only marginalized group in society where everyone is expected to someday be a part of.

Disability Pride was born out of the Disability Rights movement and has foundations in intersectional identity politics and social justice. Disability Pride is intended to celebrate the positive contributions of disabled people on society and to combat social stigma and ableism. We have a long way to go on that last bit!

We are proud to be a disabled-owned shop and we strongly believe in the power of reading and engaging with stories from every part of the disabled community. Romance x Women’s Sports Author Event 🥎🏀👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩

Endless Wonders Books is excited to welcome local Sports Romance authors, Anita Kelly and Samantha Saldivar, for this very special event in celebration of Bookstore Romance Day and The Epicenter of Women's Sports Week happening next month in Portland!

We will chat with Anita and Sam about writing sports romance, being women’s sports fans, and the literary and women’s sports communities in Portland, then have a fun and casual round of women’s sports trivia (prizes will be won!), and then ending our evening with a joint book signing.

For our August Book Club meeting, we will be reading and discussing Olufunke Grace Bankole’s multigenerational family saga, The Edge of Water!

Set between Nigeria and New Orleans, The Edge of Water tells the story of a young woman who dreams of life in America, as the collision of traditional prophecy and individual longing tests the bonds of a family during a devastating storm.

In Ibadan, Nigeria, a mother receives a divination that foretells danger for her daughter in America. In spite of this warning, she allows her to forge her own path, and Amina arrives in New Orleans filled with hope. But just as Amina begins to find her way, a hurricane threatens to destroy the city, upending everything she'd dreamed of and the lives of all she holds dear. Years later, her daughter is left with questions about the mother she barely knew, and the family she has yet to discover in Nigeria.

Exploring the love of a determined mother and dreaming daughter who do not say enough to each other until it is too late, the detangling of Yoruba Christianity, traditional religion, and folklore, and the tellings of three generations of daring women--through times of longing, promise, and romance, as well as heartbreak--Olufunke Grace Bankole's The Edge of Water is a luminous debut novel about a young woman brave enough to leave all she knows behind, and the way her fate transforms a family destined to stay together.

Mags and I will be going on vacation with their family soon and that means the shop is going on a little summer break!

Massive THANK YOU to our book buds who have graciously volunteered to keep the microshop open for reduced hours on this day. The main fair runs from 10am-6pm, but Endless Wonders and Hungry Heart will be open 8am-2pm.

Jamie Pacton & Rosiee Thor: A Double Feature Book Event 👯

I truly have no idea how Jamie and Rosiee have both managed to release not one, but TWO books this summer, but I ain’t mad about it!

Join Endless Wonders Books as we celebrate the release of all of these amazing books. Jamie Pacton and Rosiee Thor will be in conversation with one another followed by audience Q&A and signing.

Summer Coven (August 25, 2026) by Kat Hillis and Rosiee Thor: Everyone's favorite vampire odd couple is back for another bloody good time in this new supernatural mystery from the authors of Dead & Breakfast.

Life is Strange: Out of Focus (September 1, 2026) by Rosiee Thor: The official prequel to the paranormal adventure game Life is Strange: Reunion, the thrilling finale to the Max and Chloe saga.

The Golden Boy’s Guide to Bipolar by Sonido Reyes

This is a poignant and searingly honest companion novel to the multi-award-winning The Lesbiana's Guide to Catholic School, following beloved character Cesar Flores as he comes to terms with his sexuality, his new bipolar diagnosis, and more mistakes than he can count.

A young adult novel (13+) with probably the best representation of bipolar I’ve ever seen in fiction, this book was so tender and so beautiful. Sonido’s ability to write nuanced characters and their emotional experience is truly remarkable. If you’re looking for a contemporary YA book with amazing representation, give this one a try. You don’t need to have read The Lesbiana’s Guide to Catholic School to enjoy this one. Sonida Reyes will continue to be a “must read” author for me.

To our queer customers here in Portland: Happy Pride! We hope you found yourself in the midst of loving community this weekend. We went to Trans Family Picnic and it was absolutely delightful, per usual. I love a picnic, and going to one giant picnic with the beautiful diverse trans family in Portland makes it extra special.
