It's street fair season, baby!
Ice cream cones for everyone!

Street fair season is officially in full swing here in Portland! We vended at the Montavilla Street Fair last weekend and loved meeting so many of you in person to chat books, flirt with all the good doggos, and be in community together.
I even enjoyed a New Zealand-style fresh fruit ice cream and, y’all, it did not disappoint. I’ve struggled with IBS for years and trudged through months of tests, anguish, and very hard elimination diets last winter. It was awful, but did allow me to figure out what was triggering my belly and I can now successfully handle small amounts of real ice cream after 10+ years of not being able to! A good ice cream cone makes me so happy these days. We even bought a chest freezer for our basement and dream about having a soft serve machine at our future brick-and-mortar store. Love it? Hate it? Let us know!

We want your used books! We are collecting gently used diverse books to pass on to other community members. Any genre, any age, written by an author from a historically marginalized community or featuring characters/stories from marginalized communities. Send us an email (reply to this email or send a note to [email protected]) to coordinate or ask questions.
We are fundraising for Cascade AIDS Project as part of AIDS Walk NW. With federal and state funding in jeopardy, CAP needs support to continue providing inclusive health and wellness services for LGBTQ+ people, people affected by HIV, and those seeking compassionate care. AIDS Walk NW is on September 13, please consider donating or joining our team to help fight stigma against AIDS and HIV.
We’d love your feedback: We’re considering a few event ideas, inventory updates, and book clubs. Share your opinion by completing this short survey and you’ll be entered to win a $25 gift card to our shop.

Books we’re loving right now
A groundbreaking collection of first-person writing on the joys and challenges of the modern disability experience: Disability Visibility brings together the voices of activists, authors, lawyers, politicians, artists, and everyday people whose daily lives are, in the words of playwright Neil Marcus, "an art . . . an ingenious way to live." - Edited by MacArthur "Genius Grant" Fellow Alice Wong A great read for Disability Pride Month whether you’re new to learning about disability rights or have been on the journey for a while. |
A Black, autistic teen tries to figure out what happened the night his older brother was unjustly arrested in this propulsive, moving story about brotherhood, identity, and social justice. This is a great young adult book with a very sweet sibling dynamic! |
A coven of trans witches battles an evil AI in the magical coming-of-middle-age romp about love, loss, drag shows, and late capitalism. This book is great for people who enjoy intriguing relationship dynamics, tarot influences, and philosophical reflections on what it means to have a body. |
"On October 25th, 2023, after just three weeks of the bombardment of Gaza, Omar El Akkad put out a tweet: 'One day, when it's safe, when there's no personal downside to calling a thing what it is, when it's too late to hold anyone accountable, everyone will have always been against this.' This tweet was viewed more than ten million times. [This book] chronicles the deep fracture that has occurred for Black, brown, [and] Indigenous Americans, as well as the upcoming generation, many of whom had clung to a thread of faith in Western ideals, in the idea that their countries, or the countries of their adoption, actually attempted to live up to the values they espouse" Everyone needs to read this vital, timely book. I’ve read it multiple times already and I keep coming back to it so I can digest more and more. |
